Family History And Genealogy Resources In Houston
If you're researching your family genealogy and history, you're going to need some resources, besides information obtained from family records. Adding information obtained there to what your family has already given you could provide you with a much more extensive and detailed history.
The Houston Public Library has an extension dedicated solely to genealogy for those with an interest in researching family history. The Clayton Library for Genealogical Research is actually one of the top genealogy resources in the US. So, if you are in Houston doing family history research, you have access to an excellent resource.
Before arriving at the library, Clayton asks that you fill out a basic family tree or Pedigree Chart, starting with yourself and filling in the relatives that you know, leaving siblings out. Leave those you don't know blank. They will do their best to help you fill in those blank spots with the available resources.
Next, you'll need to fill out Family Group Sheets, again being sure to fill in information for those names that you know and leaving blank those that you don't. Once more, the Clayton staff will wok with you with available resources to determine missing info. If you are doing extensive genealogy research, you're going to be filling out plenty of Family Group Sheets.
Through the above sheets, as well as resources obtained through the Clayton Library for Genealogical Research in Houston, researching your family's history should be easier than only using info known by the family. That doesn't mean ignore info obtained from family. In fact, combining resources is the best way to get a more complete family history. Clayton recommends researching one family member at a time, as there can be a good amount of info on each person.
Researching family history and genealogy can be time-consuming, so don't expect to get it all done in one day. It will probably take some time, so be prepared for that. With the use of the Clayton Library of Genealogical Research, the time can be slimmed down some, versus tracing through family accounts and other more time-consuming methods, but family genealogy research is a time-consuming endeavor, as there can be many people to research. To get the most complete research, take your time, utilize various resources, and pay attention to details.
