A Biography of Colin Farrell
Colin Farrell was born in Dublin on 31 May, 1976. He attended the Gaiety School of Acting but dropped out when he was cast in the BBC television drama, Ballykissangel in 1998. In 2000 he was cast in the lead role of Private Roland Buzz in Joel Schumacher's Tigerland. In very quick succession he starred in Americal Outlaws (2001), Hart's War (2002), Minority Report (2002), Phone Booth (2003), S.W.A.T. (2003), The Recruit (2003) and Bullseye (2003). Also in 2003 he starred alongside Cillian Murphy in the Irish independent film Intermission. In 2004, Farrell starred in the title role of Oliver Stone's biopic Alexander. Despite some favourable reviews internationally, the movie was widely panned in the US; it also caused controversy for openly portraying Alexander the Great as bisexual and among some historians for its depiction of the Ancient Persians. In 2005, he starred in the lead role of Terence Malick's The New World. It received mixed reviews though Farrell was widley praised for his perfomance as John Smith, the founder of 17th century Jamestown, Virginia who falls in love with the beautiful Native American princess Pocahantas. In 2006 he starred alongside Jamie Foxx in Michael Mann's Miami Vice which was a huge success at the box office. He starred in Woody Allen's Cassandra's Dream (2007) and Martin MacDonagh's In Bruges (2008).
