Muscle Building - Sports Nutrition - Eat for Optimal Health and Get More Out of Your Body - Faster! Part 1

Everywhere you look, it's either the best supplements to get ripped, or top foods to max muscle gains - it seems like eating to boost health and performance simultaneously isn't important, isn't possible or it's simply too boring to talk about.

Don't become another victim to eating just for looks and performance. It's very important to eat the right foods for the right reasons, and staying healthy is definitely one of those reasons. Remember, if you aren't healthy, everything you're working towards, and all the training you've done means nothing.

Let me explain.

Exercise will make a world of difference in the quality of your life, however, exercise, like supplementation, is not meant to make up for neglect and abuse in other areas of your life. A weight loss pill won't make up for stuffing yourself silly at the Golden Arches and Chucky Cheese every day of the week, and exercise won't make up for faulty nutrition practices either.

There's an old Arab proverb that has the number 1 followed by a series or zeros, like this 1, 000, 000, 000, 000 etc The zeros represent all of the things in life like money, houses, clothes, your profession, friends, vacation, cars, ad infinitum. The one represents your health.

The lesson learned is, what value does the one followed by all of the zeros represent once you take away the one? Zero, zip, nada, nothing. Without your health, your strength, your muscles, a set of six pack abs will all be worthless.

Dr. Mary McCreery, a Consultant Clinical Nutritionist to both the Irish Olympic Team and the Irish Rugby Team writes:

"A well balanced diet is one that provides the body with enough energy, and all the nutrients required in their correct amounts to prevent illness and disease."

Many people erroneously follow dangerous nutritional habits like eating twice the amount of protein they actually need, or overemphasizing one macronutrient over another, usually protein rich foods like meats. Others eat unhealthy sources of macronutrient rich foods, like fatty and cholesterol laden cuts of red meat for protein as opposed to the leaner cuts, or highly refined carbs, like white flour. Some barely eat vegetables because "there's no room left" once they eat the other foods on their plate. And most haven't a clue as to how much fibre they should be getting in a day, let alone make the effort to actual consume that amount.

What one has to keep in mind is that all the muscles in the world do you no good if only one of your organs fail. Keep this in mind, and make sure you're eating in a manner that ensures you're a complete strongman or strongwoman, not simply someone who has one piece of the puzzle.

Eating Time!

Keep your macro nutrient intake at healthy levels. Strength trainers need between 0.7 gram to a high of 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight to support muscle growth. Numerous studies haven't shown any benefit from consuming more than that amount.

Also, focus on getting 35 grams of fibre spread out over your meals for the day. Eating unprocessed fruits and veggies will help you meet this goal. Using a supplement like ground flax seed is also a great way to boost your fiber intake.

So now Munster's gone down 6-25...?
...and that's a pretty comprehensive thumping, especially considering it's within the lower-scoring heavier defended NH environment... Will all of the Munster fans (and as much as I want to I won't name names) stop coming on here (acting as though they've already won the HC) and saying that more Munster players should be in the Lions, that they're a better representation of Irish Rugby than the national team. And will they stop crowing about beating... sorry... ALMOST beating the AB's midweek team on some tour game? Will this shut them up? Or will they instead just come here and say how as a matter of fact (not thier opinion) O'Driscoll is the best there's ever been? Oh yeah Murphy I was waiting for one of them to blame Tipoki, Mafi or Howlett. How after bleating on about Munster's supposedly world-best forward pack they'll soon blame the imported backline. "complacency killed munster we had one eye on the HC final and one eye on the lions tour and didn't see leinster coming we beat leinster twice this year and didnt think much of them either time we had just won the magners league title on thursday and got ahead of ourselves" I'm curious, did you laugh when AB's fans said something similar to that in 1999, 2003 or 2007? Richie: [laughs] Oh yeah I've got a real chip on my shoulder, yeah ood one. You get defensive like this because you know I'm right... To Ritchie (yet again): [interrupting] NO RITCHIE. You always do this. You get defensive (over nothing) and start insinuating and attacking me (for no reason). And it's obvious why. Because everything you say has defensive tones. Because I'm always right and you don't want to concede it. Just take a good hard look at this response and previous ones. It's absurd you're accusing me of having a chip on my shoulder about Munster considering it's the first time I've ever mentioned them. Grow up.

Are Irish fans who are aghast at O'Driscoll in 2005 aware of the following?
The following clips of the sorts of hits you see in the Super 14 (or Super 12 as it was known then) every weekend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CP5M1WyfKdo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afRZTkaNOT0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GoxXtlSJpU From my post last week it looked as though this supposed spear tackle was the worst thing that had ever happened in the History of Irish rugby, and some even called Umaga a thug (which is NOT his reputation in the SH). I don't know if this is because you're used to the Gaelic sports, that Irish Rugby doesn't feature so much intense injury causing play or that it's just a case of one-eyed hypocracy. I hope it's the former and not the latter. Well I'm posting these vids to show that for the SH it was nothing out of the ordinary and that really as much as you want to believe otherwise there's no rational reason to automatically assume it was intentional let alone premeditated. Yeah Steve Smith nice attempt at a come back for an insult that was only imagined by you. I don't see any French histrionics about the supposed 'spear tackle' and their players, especially Chabal, are pretty far from soft. In any case the jaw was fractured and he got up again pretty smartly. So if you've got such hard hitting rugby can you please explain the song and dance about O'Driscoll on the Lions tour? Surely nobody used to that sort of play would assume it was premeditated or worth going on about like that Irish TV video that girl linked on my other question did. "NZ knew that without him the lions would have no chance of beating the ABs" Yes and with him the Lion's chances weren't much higher. After all he hadn't exactly shone in any of the tour games he'd played, being pretty much outplayed by Tipoki in the NZ Maori game. And yes they should've copped a reprimand, but they didn't. The Linesman didn't do his job. And the Saffa match referee didn't have enough to cite them with. This happens ALL THE TIME, that's sport. And for the record, on the video while O'Driscoll was lifted when as the ball got cleared, Mealamu's hands had been on his legs before, and he couldn't have seen it. Tough break for O'Driscoll getting injured but that's Rugby. The injury has hardly affected his career, the Lions would've still been outplayed (after all his replacements were competent). Why the big song and dance? or is it just an excuse to get some cheap moral victory over the AB's? And any talk of retrospective reprimanding with new evidence is ridiculous. To Southernman with obviously very small penis: Why the f-ck would you even give this answer except to put on some tough guy routine? Hey! I'm seeing all this anti-NZ sentiment from Irish fans and they've justified it with this O'Driscoll thing. All those four years ago. So I'm pointing out that it's bullcrap. How is it me who hasn't got over it? Do you have a problem with this? or are you just another insecure abrasive loser frustrated with his 'mainland lifestyle'?
