Pockets of Positive News for the Irish Job Market

If you are on the job hunt in Ireland at the moment, or perhaps someone from abroad looking to relocate, you probably have a few questions about what exactly is going on in terms of the Irish labour market at the moment. If this is the case, then you are in luck, as some recent research and salary survey efforts have provided some interesting results in terms of Ireland, the job market and the current economic downturn.

Straight off the bat- things do not look that good. Average salary levels in Ireland have dropped as much a fifth in the past year, according to a new salary survey conducted by Reed Global. Not surprisingly, the financial sector has been the hardest hit, with salaries in this sector showing the largest decrease. However, there are still pockets within the financial sector which are providing some positivity amongst the decline. For example, the research revealed that the demand for experienced credit controllers, insolvency experts and technology specialists has seen steady salaries, despite the recession.

The I-gaming industry has also provided some positive results, with salary guides indicating that the dramatic growth in this industry has lead to an increase in salaries for the right individuals, particularly those who have experience in cutting-edge software.

All in all the salary survey produced by Reed Global is a valuable resource for organisations, employees and jobseekers alike, as it provides a rare and objective view into the current labour market and salary norms across a variety of industries. Definitely worth a read of you are in the Irish job market at the moment.

A full cope of the salary survey can be found at: www.reedglobal.ie

The Irish Job Interview?
An Irish man wants a job, but the foreman won't hire him until he passes a little math test. Here is your first question, the foreman said. "Without using numbers, represent the number 9." "Without numbers?" The Irishman says, "Dat is easy." And proceeds to draw three trees. "What's this?" the boss asks? "Ave you got no brain? Tree and tree and tree make nine," says the Irishman . "Fair enough," says the boss. "Here's your second question. Use the same rules, but this time the number is 99." The Irishman stares into space for a while, then picks up the picture that he has just drawn and makes a smudge on each tree. "Ere you go." The boss scratches his head and says, "How on earth do you get that to represent 99?" "Each of da trees is dirty now. So, it's dirty tree, and dirty tree, and dirty tree. Dat is 99." The boss is getting worried that he's going to actually have to hire this Irishman , so he says, "All right, last question. Same rules again, but represent the number 100." The Irishman stares into space some more, then he picks up the picture again and makes a little mark at the base of each tree and says, "Ere you go. One hundred." The boss looks at the attempt. "You must be nuts if you think that represents a hundred!" The Irishman leans forward and points to the marks at the base of each tree and says, "A little dog come along and crap by each tree. So now you got dirty tree and a turd, dirty tree and a turd, and dirty tree and a turd, which makes one hundred." "So, when do I start?"
