Irish Ancestry

Get Ready to Begin Your Irish Genealogical Quest!

Are you ready to begin your own Irish genealogical quest? You're not alone. Today, over 34 million people in the United States alone have Irish ancestry. It's one of the most commonly searched nationalities in American genealogy! Irish roots are found in every part of American life, thanks largely to a huge influx of immigration in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Not only is Ireland well-represented among the population of the United States, it can be found throughout the world. People in nearly every nation on earth have ancestry that could ultimately lead them on an Irish genealogical quest. The people of Ireland have been fanning out throughout the world since as early as the 7th century, when monks from the "Emerald Isle" set out to bring Christianity to the masses in Europe. Emigration continued at a steady pace until the 19th century, when it exploded! The infamous potato famine was happening then, and it caused 2 million Irish nationals to emigrate to nations all over the world, but particularly England, Scotland, Canada, Australia, and the United States.

If you want to identify your Irish ancestors and get to know who they were, there's now plenty of opportunity to do so. Today, there are more records than ever that have been opened to the public, and even made available online! Lots of websites, such as the Origins Network, now make Irish genealogical records available online for a small monthly fee. You can use these websites to find such important records as birth, death, and marriage records, church registers, census records, and rosters of property owners (also known as Griffiths Valuation). These records typically go back into about the mid-19th century, but that's just the beginning of what's available. Keep looking, because your Irish ancestors are there!

Ready to meet your Irish ancestors? Come to Irish Genealogical, the Internet's top place for all things Irish genealogy! While you're there, be sure to read our article on a little known source that can help you make big strides in your Irish genealogical research.

Are there any predominant ancestries in your area?
I'm not sure if I worded that correctly. Like, are most people where you live of a certain ancestry? German, Spanish, Irish, etc. In my province (I'm Canadian), nearly everyone is descended from the English, the Irish, or both. Something like 80% of us have Irish ancestry, and even more have English. My ancestors were English and Irish, like everyone else's in my province. What about you? Are most people where you live of the same ancestry, or is it a mixture?

Do I have a chance with a Latino guy as a bf?
I'm feeling a little blue... I would like to have a boyfriend, but I don't want to be with a guy that I don't care for. I'm 32 years old and from the USA and have Irish ancestry, but I am super attracted to Mexican guys. I have studied, taught English and lived in Spain and Mexico, and I speak Spanish and love Latin culture and feel a sense of belonging. I would like to have a boyfriend but I am only attracted to Mexican guys and I feel ridiculous harboring hopes that a Mexican guy would be interested in me! I don't think I have a chance with one at all... even if I could find an unmarried guy my age, he would probably not be attracted to someone 32 years old from the USA. Guys want a young girl and not some granny. People here in Mexico seem to marry at a younger age than people in the USA, and at my age (32) most people are already married. I know guys yonger than me who are single but seriously... who is gonna want a 32 year old bag? :'( I don't think many Mexican or other Latino guys would think of me as desirable. People have accused me of being closed minded but I KNOW that I'm not attracted to American white guys! I mean NO offense to American guys! Nothing wrong with themj... it's just that latino guys make my heart jump in a way no one else does and I know I'll never like an American white guy. I'm starting to despair because I don't think I'll ever have a bf or love someone who returns my feelings!
