Giants Causeway Tours UnEarthed Some Fantastic Irish Tales.

For everyone fascinated in folklore, Giants Causeway tours are crucial. Situated off the north coast of Antrim in Ireland, the Giants Causeway the tales virtually seem believable.

Diverse cultures from around the globe are filled with enthralling mythology, most dating back centuries. They tell of all kinds of local legends, and make extremely interesting listening. Stories of ghosts, fairies and of course giants cram Ireland's mythology.

Finn was a giant who lived in County Antrim with his wife Oonagh. Far away on the coast of Scotland lived another giant named Benandonner. Finn and Benandonner decided they would have a competition to determine who was the mightier, vicious giant, so Finn constructed a causeway over the sea from Antrim to Staffa in Scotland. Upon completion, the tired Finn fell asleep. Meanwhile, Benandonner came looking for his fight. After seeing that Benandonner was much bigger than the sleeping Finn, Oonagh covered her husband in a blanket, and muted the giant so as not to wake her sleeping child. Benandonner absconded in fright; if Finn's child was this big, how big must he himself be? He destroyed the causeway so Finn could not chase him to Scotland and demand the contest.

It is made all the more credible as Staffa has its own similar rock formations.

This legend was believed for just over a century, as no other explanations could be thought of as to how the flawless hexagonal rocks had got there. However, in 1771, a Frenchman found the rocks to be the outcome of volcanic action.

The legends stay enjoyable and compelling, and just the excuse needed to explore tours of Giants Causeway for yourself .
