Parity urges organisations to rise to the information chaos challenge
by Warren Tsoi
Parity, the business and IT services company, is warning companies that unless they take the volume of information seriously, then their executives are in serious risk of wasting time throughout their working day and making poor business decisions.
Research from IT analysts the Butler Group reveals that employees spend nearly 25% of their working day searching for information to do their jobs and looking for ways of improving collaboration. "Parity is helping clients tackle this problem" says David Conkleton, Managing Director for Parity Business Solutions. "We are currently helping Northamptonshire County Council, Ofgem and Capacitybuilders to manage and distribute large volumes of information within their organisations."
Parity is leading the development of enterprise content management solutions based on Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS 2007) to manage information and help support collaborative working across departments or external organisations. The growth in content volume is being fuelled by the proliferation of unstructured content such as email and the need to store documents and records for compliance and regulatory requirements.
A survey conducted earlier this year by Accenture identified that as a consequence of poor information distribution, 59% of managers in large companies miss information that might be valuable to their jobs almost every day because it exists somewhere else in the company and they just can not find it. Parity's own experience is that organisations are looking for IT solutions that facilitate collaborative working and help them navigate through this growing sea of information.
Dave Conkleton continues, "Using web portals to facilitate the sharing of information and knowledge between departments and project teams as well as external stakeholders is proving to be a winning proposition and we now consider ourselves as leading experts in this area. It's a whole new philosophy of working with information, helping companies get out of chaos and into spending their time making sound business decisions".
In parallel with advising organisations to adopt a strategic approach to managing their documents and information, Parity also advocates rolling out a change management programme to help end users get the most value out of their new systems.
Editorial notes: Parity, uniquely for its size, offers a full range of IT services to major companies including:
