Was there smuggling in Ireland in 18th through the early 19th century?
I know most history of Ireland during this period was mostly from an English point of view and might not have much on this kind of activity if it was successfully kept secret. I am interested in family stories or lore that might give some idea how pervasive it might have been. If you can give locations I can find on a map, it would be helpful. I am especially interested in a connection between the American colonies and the west or southwest of Ireland. I am trying to find any truth to a family myth.
