Ferries To Northern Ireland

Enjoy a family break in the 'Gateway to Northern Ireland' with bargain hotels in Belfast

Revived and renewed, Belfast is a City which has completely re-invented itself and all of a sudden, ever increasing numbers of visitors are finding Belfast is a charming, vibrant and exciting place to be. Getting to Belfast is as easy and as cheap as getting to many other UK cities with several options available, such as arriving by ferry from the mainland at Belfast Harbour or by flying into Belfast City Airport; both options put you just minutes away from the centre of the City.

A major attraction of Belfast though, is that it is a quality and value for money City and a superb place for a family holiday; accommodation can easily be found in the best placed locations citywide and the plentiful bargain hotels in Belfast ensure that a comfortable stay in the City won't cost the earth...and for visitors who wish to see the many exciting attractions across the province; Belfast is the perfect 'gateway' from which to explore the rest of Northern Ireland.

As mentioned, securing one of the plentiful and well positioned bargain hotels in Belfast is easy and having secured just such a Belfast hotel bargain, avid visitors will, no doubt, be keen to start their explorations; so what might a keen Belfast explorer find within the City?

Well, just a stones throw from most central Belfast hotels, the city centre beckons and the focus falls upon the magnificent Belfast City Hall in Donegall Square; a huge Victorian neo-Renaissance palazzo which boasts magnificent interiors and tranquil landscaped grounds which are open for all to enjoy. Across the road is just one of the City's many shopping thoroughfares and if a bout of 'retail therapy' is required, this is the place to head for; every high street name can be found here as well as many unique boutiques, outlets and eateries...in fact enough to keep even the most avid shopper happy.

It is certainly true that Belfast has far more attractions than can be seen in one visit to the City, so for those in a quandary as to where to visit next, a visit to Cave Hill might provide an excellent overview and aid the decision; a trek to the summit of this 1182ft volcanic hill will be rewarded with breathtaking views over Belfast City, Lough Neigh to the West, and the Irish sea, Strangford Lough and the Isle of Man to the East and South East. Whilst in the vicinity, Belfast Zoological Gardens, Belfast Botanic Gardens and the excellent Ulster Museum can all easily be visited in succession before retiring gratefully to one's Belfast hotel at the end of a busy day. Back at the hotel a hearty meal featuring the best of Ulster fare and a warm welcome is sure to be waiting.

Picking up on this welcome; the hospitality and genuine warmth of the Belfast people truly stands out and such is the pride in their City and their province that they will always take great care to recommend the very best attractions to interested visitors: attractions that they might recommend outside Belfast might include The Giant's Causeway, Dunluce Castle, The Antrim Glens, The Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, The Bushmills Distillery, The Mourne Mountains and the Fermanagh Lakes, as well as some little known personal favourites.

Of course, whether in or out of Belfast, the sheer wealth of superb attractions utterly precludes seeing them all in one visit; but that is the nice thing about Northern Ireland, it engenders a feeling of delight at what has been seen, as well as a determination to return and see more...and with the low price of travel to the Province and the wide availability of bargain hotels in Belfast, many visitors return to do just that.

Can I rent a car in London and then travel to Ireland with it?
I would like to drive from London to Scotland, then take the car by ferry to Northern Ireland, drive to Ireland, then ferry back across to Wales, then back to London. Are there restrictions on bringing a rental car to Ireland by ferry?

Should I take full sized toiletries on minis when on holiday for a week?
I'm going by ferry to Northern Ireland in June. We're renting a cottage. I know June is a while away but I want to be prepared as I have an operation and exams coming up before I go. Normally I go to Germany for three weeks and don't take any as I am staying with family normally and can easily walk into the village to get something.
