Killarney's Vacation Guidelines
The town of Killarney in Ireland is located at County Kerry, southwest of Ireland. Its name is derived from the Irish word Cill Airne which literally means "the church of the sloes". It is particularly situated in the north of the MacGillicuddy Reeks, near the shore of the Lough Lein/Leane, northeastern part.
Due to its breathtaking sights and natural heritage, it is considered as a well-known tourist destination. There are so many means of transportation here in Killarney . There are train services going to Tralee, Cork Limerick, and Dublin that is being managed by Iarnrd ireann. There are also buses that are operated by Bus ireann going to Limerick, Dublin, Cork, Tralee, Skibbereen and Kenmare.
There are also some airports here such as Kerry Airport, which is located in Farranfore in the midst of Tralee and Killarney. This airport offers a wide variety of air services. You can also find the Cork Airport that serves the Kerry region and is easily accessible by train or bus.
There are many sites of natural, historic and religious interest on the lakes which are mostly contained in the surrounding Killarney National Park. You can find the Ross Castle, Muckross House and Muckross Abbey on the shores of Killarney. You can also find the Innisfallen Island on Lough Leane. The other popular tourist attractions are the following:
Ross Island
It is an island situated on the east of Lough Leane. 4000 years ago, it was the site of copper mines. It is the first discovered copper mines located in the Isles of Britain. The site was also mined extensively by the Herbert family of Muckross House during the early 19th century.
Ross Castle
It is the ancient residence of the O'Donoghue clan but it became more popularly associated with the Brownes family of Killarney recently owned the castle. It is situated on the border of Lough Leane, in Killarney National Park.
Muckross Peninsula
Muckross Peninsula is an island which separates Muckross Lake from Lough Leane. You can find one of the few Yew woods in Europe, here in Muckross Peninsula.
Muckross House
Muckross House is situated on Muckross Peninsula in the midst of Lough Leane and Muckross Lake. These are just two of the Lakes of Killarney located 6 kms. from the town centre of Killarney in County Kerry, Ireland.
Killarney National Park
This national park is sited just beside the town centre of Killarney Ireland. The first national park in Killarney that was established in Ireland is Killarney National Park. It was formed during 1932 when Senator Arthur Rose Vincent, together with his parents-in-law donated the Muckross Estate to the state of Ireland. The park was significantly extended by acquiring a land from the estate of the former Earl of Kenmare.

Long ago Whit Monday wave drowned 5 girls southwest Ireland?
This was in The Autoboigraphy of Peig Sayers of Great Blasket Island . Mrs Sayers and her brother-in law are taking turns telling old stories. In one story she tells of 5 girls from Ventry --in County Kerry, Ireland---who went Whit Monday to gather bairneachs and to dance on a cliff top and were drpwned. That same day, according to Mrs. Sayer's story, 2 other women almost drowned near Tonakilly. . There was a huge wave which other people saw and watched until it had passed Slea Head and moved south. Did this really happen? Do you think it was a tsunani? Can you give me more information?
