A Brief History
Cork was founded in the 7th Century which is why there are so many magnificent attractions and such a vibrant culture in the area. Cork was first recognized because of the abbey, which led to the invasion of the Vikings and then later by the English in 1172. During the middle ages it became a significant trading town because of the big port. Cork has stayed a significant town and is now considered a hotspot of Ireland.

Travel
There is a big international airport in Cork which is the most popular way of arriving, and there is an extremely good bus connection service to the city or taxis are very inexpensive. Dining Out
If you are looking for traditional Irish food and a good night out then you will definitely find it in cork. You can find live music and pubs on every street serving a traditional pint of Guinness. You can also find food from around the world to suit your taste buds.

Retail
The main shopping area in Cork is in Merchant Quay where many of the chain stores and department stores for what ever you are looking for. If you are looking for a place to have a quick meal and a wander around then Patrick's street has many little eateries and high fashion shops. There are many little delicatessens and vegetable markets around to find the produce that you need.

Places of Interest
Both St Ann's Church St Finn Barres Cathedral are very impressive sights, which are a must see if you are Cork. If you have time you should also visit the Cork City Goal which has been restored to its former glory and will give you a look at some of the city's history. If you want to get out of the city for a little break then the town of Cobh is a lovely place to visit while you are nearby.
