Use Car Hire Shannon to Visit Ancient History

Are you interested in exploring more about our ancient civilizations? If yes, than you must definitely visit this country of Ireland. Though the country has really developed well and you might see it as a blend of traditional and modern ways, it still has its root deeply grounded in the ancient beliefs and ways of life. If you are thinking of going to Ireland then it is recommended that you go to the city of Shannon. Of course, you might not have heard much about this place but there are enough attractions in Shannon that will keep you busy throughout your trip.

Located in the mid-western parts of Ireland, this city is full of stunning landscapes and amazing attractions that you might have never seen ever before. The Shannon region covers the counties of Clare, Limerick, North Tipperary, and South Offaly, and can be reached easily by land, air or sea. Travelers can fly directly into Shannon Airport or come by ferry or car hire Shannon from Cork. Though the city also has efficient railway service, most of the international visitors and locals prefer car hire Shannon because the highways are not crowded and its makes the journey quicker and smoother.

If you have car hire Shannon, you must stop at Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. These two places are the top tourist's destination in Shannon. The castle was made in the 13th century to protect this little city from outsiders and intruders. Folk Park was added on as a way to educate visitors about life in a nineteenth-century Irish village. As it is a complete working historical village, guests can watch as artisans in period costume bake bread, work the iron forge, and run the mill. You can check the schedule ahead of time, because in the evenings, the castle area is sometimes used for medieval banquets which are truly a treat to attend.

For those who prefer to dig deeper into ancient civilizations can visit Limerick which is nearby Shannon and can take a tour of King John's Castle. This Anglo-Norman castle was made in 1200 and includes not only historical exhibits but also archeological excavation sites. You will also be able to find some mines near the castle that are supposed to be made in the 13th century. The massive gatehouse and corner towers are some of the top tourist's attractions in King John's Castle.

You will also find a number of churches and monasteries in Shannon and particularly around the County Clare which is home to a legendary church builder known as Donal Mor O Brien. The Killone Augustinian Convent in Clarecastle, the Ennis Friary, and the Carran church in Ballyvaughan are all prime examples of traditional architecture of medieval times. Visit all of these places if you are interested in the ancient history of Ireland.
